1st NOMAD Summer School on novel analytical techniques for organic matter research
This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Sweden and participate in the Nexus of Organic Matter Analytical Developments (NOMAD) Summer School, organized by Jeffrey Hawke’s group. It was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to rethink the way we analyse organic matter and engage with world-class researchers.
Our base for the week was the stunning Tjärno Marine Laboratory, located on a small island surrounded by the pristine waters of the Baltic Sea. The serene location provided the perfect backdrop for our intellectual pursuits and fostered meaningful discussions with participants from diverse backgrounds.
Cutting-Edge Analytical Techniques
The summer school provided us with invaluable insights into some of the most advanced techniques used in organic matter analysis. From fluorescence-excitation matrix analysis to high-resolution mass spectrometry, the sessions were both practical and theoretical, pushing the boundaries of what I thought was possible in organic matter characterization. My favorite topic was Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and Isotopic tracing, with the amazing Nicholle G. A. Bell and Margot E. White
A Big Thank You
I wanted to extend my sincere gratitude to all the organizers and teachers who made this opportunity possible. Their dedication to advancing our understanding of organic matter analysis and their generosity in sharing their knowledge made this summer school an enriching experience. Thank you to the entire NOMAD team for this fantastic opportunity!
Stay tuned for more updates as I dive deeper into this fascinating field!
